Six letters, 14 Jan. - 10 May 1847, relating news from home, including letter, 7 Apr. 1847, from A.C. Maybin, Columbia, re apprehension, trial, and release of a citizen accused of assisting slaves to escape by providing fraudulent papers and other means, "...the jury did not think the proof strong enough to hang him... and the villian was turned out on [the] community...."
